SPECIES CARE GUIDE

Arrowhead Vine & Milk Confetti (Syngonium podophyllum)

Use this guide as a starting point for caring for this species at home.

Lighting

Give it medium to bright indirect light. For ‘Milk Confetti’, choose a brighter spot within that range to help maintain its variegation.

Watering

Let the mix dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, then empty any water that collects in the saucer or outer pot.

Substrate

Use a potting mix that holds some moisture and drains freely. Clemson suggests equal parts coir or peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite.

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity suits indoor Syngonium. Around 50% or higher is a useful starting point.

Temperature

Aim for 65–75°F as a general indoor range.

Fertilizing

Feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer about once a month during spring and summer growth. Feed less in lower light.

Common problems

Check under leaves and along stems for spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Arrowhead vines can also develop bacterial leaf spots and stem rot.

Pet toxicity

Toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and trouble swallowing. Keep out of reach.

Growth habit

This shared guide covers Arrowhead Vine (Syngonium podophyllum) and Milk Confetti (Syngonium podophyllum ‘Milk Confetti’). Milk Confetti has pale green leaves with pink speckles. Older arrowhead vines can trail or climb.

Propagation

Take a stem cutting that includes a node.
